Top 5 Most Dangerous Roads in Texas

Texas has the largest state highway system, and unfortunately, some of these roads are dangerous to travel on. As a matter of fact, Texas is home to some of America’s most dangerous roads, resulting in almost 4,000 vehicle-related deaths in 2020 alone.

The following Texas highways have been deemed to be the most dangerous in the state:

  • I-45 – Not only is this the most dangerous stretch of road in Texas, but it is also the second most dangerous road in all of the United States, with 92 fatalities.
  • Stemmons Freeway (I-35E) – Stemmons was Dallas-Fort Worth’s first modern freeway built over 60 years ago. In a two-year timespan, 20 people died while traveling on this road.
  • Marvin D. Love Freeway – This Dallas highway has been the site of 15 fatal accidents in the Lone Star state.
  • Tomball Parkway – As the third most dangerous road in the state, 14 people have died in car crashes on this highway.
  • Texas 12 Loop – Dallas had 2.5 deaths per mile of highway, or 12 total fatalities in a two-year timespan.

There are many factors that can make a road dangerous, but some of the most common dangers come from the behavior of drivers themselves. Out of the thousands of deaths that occurred on Texas roadways in 2020, 25 percent of them involved drunk driving, and another nine percent were caused by distracted driving.

Another huge cause of crashes is speed. When drivers are speeding, they have less time to react to unexpected hazards. While it’s true that today’s cars are safer than the ones driven by our parents and grandparents, newer cars with smoother suspensions and quieter tires also make it seem like they’re not going as fast as they really are.

Being involved in a serious accident can be a traumatizing experience. If you or a loved one has been injured due to someone else's negligence, you may be facing a long road to medical recovery. In addition to your physical injuries, you may also be dealing with emotional trauma, mounting medical bills and lost wages. The last thing you need is the added stress of dealing with insurance companies and paperwork. When suffering through an accident, it’s a good idea to seek the counsel of a Texas auto accident attorney to guide you and your family.
